ALICIA MCCULLOUGH

Associate

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (BCACC# 23309) and also a teacher counsellor currently working in the Sooke School District. I work with children, youth and adults to manage anxiety, depression, grief and loss and other life challenges. Having worked for over 10 years in elementary and middle schools in Canada and abroad, I have a strong understanding of the challenges faced by school aged children, both in and out of the school environment and enjoy working with this age group. I am also passionate about offering parenting support that encourages parents to feel confident in their role as a parent leader while maintaining and developing strong, connected relationships with their child.

My therapeutic approach is informed by Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I love to work with multiple modalities whenever possible and I find integrating expressive art, games, and play therapy techniques to be especially helpful to create an engaging and supportive therapeutic experience.

I believe that we all have the capacity for personal growth and healing. When life becomes more complicated, we sometimes need a caring, nonjudgmental presence to listen, help us shift perspectives and remind us of personal strengths. My goal as a counsellor is to help you discover the strengths and resources that you already have so that you can lean into experiences of all emotions while holding to core values and leading a more fulfilling life.

I am an indisputable nerd with a passion for knowledge, so outside of work and school, I can often be found reading or researching topics of interest. However, I also have a soft spot for fantasy novels, enjoy exercise as well as traveling and spending time with family.
